How many years has DoggiePause been in business?
Doggie Pause opened in 1999, with 3 dogs and 1 staff person: me!How do you choose your staff?
I look for people who, regardless of prior experience, really LOVE dogs! I've had artists, musicians, vet techs, fitness trainers and even an accountant on staff. I choose two or three top candidates, then let the dogs decide. The applicants come in for an hour or two working with the dogs, and we see who the dogs seem to prefer. What is the dog to Staff Ratio?
We staff one person for every 10 - 12 dogs. Why don't you board all the time?
We staff 24/7 when we are boarding - the dogs are never left alone. Because of the expense of doing that, we board during peak demand times: Thanksgiving, Christmas and during the summer from Memorial Day to Labor Day.What discipline techniques are used at DoggiePause?
We try to re-direct dogs from unwanted behaviors, such as barking, to neutral or desired behaviors, such as chasing a ball. We use time-outs and sometimes a squirt with the water bottle - although that's more of a reward for some of them! We don't use physical punishment or devices such as shock or citronella collars. How is DoggiePause regulated?
Dog daycares and other pet care facilities such as pet shops, kennels, etc., are regulated by the Colorado Department of Agriculture under PACFA (Pet Animals Care Facilities Act).
